Les premi\u00e8res observations sur l\u2019\u00e9pave (pr\u00e9sence d\u2019une quille, assemblage des pi\u00e8ces de bois, dimensions et nombre des membrures\u2026) permettent de restituer un bateau robuste (voilier de charge) capable de naviguer sur la Garonne mais \u00e9galement de faire du cabotage sur la fa\u00e7ade atlantique. La pr\u00e9sence d&rsquo;un plancher indique que cette embarcation pouvait transporter des marchandises en vrac. L&rsquo;\u00e9pave est en bon \u00e9tat de conservation et certains \u00e9l\u00e9ments d\u2019accastillage comme les cordages sont encore pr\u00e9sents \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur. Faute de sources \u00e9crites et d\u2019\u00e9paves en nombre suffisant, les modes de navigation \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque sont encore tr\u00e8s peu connus, cette d\u00e9couverte va donc conduire \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper ce champ de la recherche. L\u2019\u00e9pave va \u00eatre enti\u00e8rement d\u00e9gag\u00e9e et document\u00e9e par relev\u00e9s photos, restitution 3D, topographie et enregistrement des diff\u00e9rentes pi\u00e8ces de bois. Elle sera d\u00e9mont\u00e9e et num\u00e9rot\u00e9e pi\u00e8ce \u00e0 pi\u00e8ce. Ce d\u00e9montage permettra d\u2019analyser dans le d\u00e9tail la construction du bateau, op\u00e9ration indispensable pour d\u00e9terminer la tradition architecturale navale \u00e0 laquelle il se rattache.
