Les massifs forestiers des Alpes-Maritimes, surtout ceux compos\u00e9s d’\u00e9pic\u00e9a, sont menac\u00e9s par un insecte ravageur de quelques centim\u00e8tres, capable d’infester l’arbre en quelques jours seulement. Le \u201cips typographus\u201c, plus commun\u00e9ment nomm\u00e9 \u201cscolyte de l’\u00e9pic\u00e9a\u201c, est un col\u00e9opt\u00e8re dont la ponte entre l’\u00e9corce et le bois attaque l’arbre. Les galeries creus\u00e9es par les larves perturbent la circulation de s\u00e8ve et contribuent \u00e0 l’affaiblissement puis \u00e0 la mort du sujet. De la succession d’\u00e9t\u00e9s chauds et secs suivis d’hivers anormalement doux r\u00e9sulte une inadaptation progressive des essences en place qui se traduit par des probl\u00e8mes phytosanitaires comme le d\u00e9p\u00e9rissement, les maladies ou les attaques d’insectes. Gaston Franco, maire de la commune de Saint-Martin-V\u00e9subie, et l’Office national des for\u00eats ont d\u00e9cid\u00e9 l’extraction des \u00e9pic\u00e9as scolyt\u00e9s dans le haut-Bol\u00e9ron. Impropres \u00e0 une utilisation en sciages de qualit\u00e9, ils pourront \u00eatre exploit\u00e9s en bois de chauffage ou bois \u00e9nergie.
