C&rsquo;est un projet de recherche fondamentale coordonn\u00e9 par le Groupe d&rsquo;\u00e9tude de l&rsquo;Atmosph\u00e8re MEt\u00e9rorologique.\u000b\u000bLa ville est un syst\u00e8me complexe particuli\u00e8rement concern\u00e9 par le changement climatique : ses b\u00e2timents consomment de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie et rejettent des gaz \u00e0 effet de serre ; son climat local est accentu\u00e9 par la formation d&rsquo;\u00eelots de chaleur urbains ; les usages de climatisation ou chauffage de ses habitants sont vari\u00e9s ; ses modifications structurelles sont soumises \u00e0 une forte inertie qui oblige \u00e0 raisonner, tout comme pour le changement climatique, \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle du si\u00e8cle. Dans ce contexte, quelles mesures auront un effet significatif sur le climat urbain et la consommation d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie des b\u00e2timents.\u000b\u000bLes comportements sont tr\u00e8s influents sur la consommation d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie, autant voire plus que les techniques de r\u00e9novation du b\u00e2timent. Ainsi, simplement chauffer \u00e0 19\u00b0C au lieu de 21\u00b0C permet de baisser la consommation de 28%. L&rsquo;\u00e9t\u00e9, fermer les volets permet de diminuer sensiblement l&rsquo;usage de la climatisation (-45% environ).\u000b\u000bLa climatisation a tendance \u00e0 augmenter l&rsquo;intensit\u00e9 de l&rsquo;\u00eelot de chaleur urbain et \u00e0 d\u00e9t\u00e9riorer le confort ext\u00e9rieur (+30 min par jour en stress thermique \u00e9lev\u00e9 en petite couronne). Toutefois, il existe d&rsquo;autres technologies qui permettent de ne pas rel\u00e2cher directement la chaleur vers l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re (par exemple, avec des tours a\u00e9ror\u00e9frig\u00e9rantes, vers les rivi\u00e8res si la temp\u00e9rature de l&rsquo;eau le permet, ou mieux, en r\u00e9cup\u00e9rant cette \u00e9nergie).\u000b\u000bLa v\u00e9g\u00e9talisation urbaine de pleine terre est efficace pour am\u00e9liorer le confort d&rsquo;\u00e9t\u00e9 en ext\u00e9rieur, mais tend aussi \u00e0 rafra\u00eechir l&rsquo;air aux autres p\u00e9riodes de l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e, n\u00e9cessitant un peu plus de chauffage.\u000b\u000bL&rsquo;utilisation de panneaux solaires permet de diminuer l&rsquo;\u00eelot de chaleur urbain. En effet, bien qu&rsquo;ils soient plus sombres que les mat\u00e9riaux de toitures et absorbent donc beaucoup d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie solaire, ils en utilisent une bonne partie pour produire de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie et restituent de ce fait moins de chaleur vers l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re.\u000b\u000bUne forme dense de b\u00e2ti, comme les maisons mitoyennes ou le petit collectif, n\u00e9cessite localement moins d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie pour le b\u00e2ti (chauffage et climatisation) et le transport. Toutefois, \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle d&rsquo;une agglom\u00e9ration, une expansion de type \u00ab ville compacte \u00bb ne serait au final pas plus efficace qu&rsquo;une expansion de type \u00ab ville \u00e9tendue \u00bb (i.e., une expansion au fil de l&rsquo;eau), du fait d&rsquo;un rafra\u00eechissement de l&rsquo;\u00eelot de chaleur en hiver pendant la p\u00e9riode de chauffe. Une agglom\u00e9ration ayant suivi une expansion au fil de l&rsquo;eau (donc relativement \u00e9tendue mais gardant toutefois l&#8217;empreinte de ville europ\u00e9enne relativement dense du Paris actuel) ne n\u00e9cessitera pour le b\u00e2ti pas plus d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie qu&rsquo;une agglom\u00e9ration compacte (dont l&#8217;empreinte urbaine est suppos\u00e9e fig\u00e9e d\u00e8s 2020).
