Biologique, facile \u00e0 mettre en pratique et peu on\u00e9reux. Comme agent d\u00e9clenchant, les chercheurs ont fait appel \u00e0 des bact\u00e9ries, les Sporosarcina Pasteurii, qu\u2019ils ont lyophilis\u00e9es afin de les rendre facilement utilisables. Dispers\u00e9es sur le terrain, elles s\u2019attachent aux grains de sable ou de gravier, se multiplient et forment finalement un film adh\u00e9sif et protecteur.<\/p>\n<p>Le r\u00f4le de ces microorganismes sera alors de jouer les entremetteurs entre de l\u2019ur\u00e9e, une mol\u00e9cule de synth\u00e8se hautement soluble et non toxique, et du calcium qui sont pulv\u00e9ris\u00e9s sur la surface. Les bact\u00e9ries d\u00e9composent les mol\u00e9cules d\u2019ur\u00e9e et lib\u00e8rent du carbonate qui se lie avec le calcium pour former des cristaux de calcite. Ceux-ci s\u2019accrochent aux particules du sol et grandissent en nombre et en taille. Ils peuvent atteindre plusieurs centaines de microm\u00e8tres.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019enzyme d\u2019ur\u00e9ase, \u00e9galement lib\u00e9r\u00e9e par les bact\u00e9ries durant leur digestion, se charge d\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer le processus : la r\u00e9action, 1000 fois plus rapide, permet d\u2019avoir le r\u00e9sultat escompt\u00e9 entre quelques heures et quelques jours. La r\u00e9sistance de cette cimentation ainsi que sa microstructure, ont \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 test\u00e9es sur divers sols avec d\u2019excellents r\u00e9sultats.<\/p>\n<p>Ce biociment peut \u00eatre produit sur place, \u00e0 moindre co\u00fbt, \u00e0 temp\u00e9rature ambiante et avec un besoin en \u00e9nergie limit\u00e9. Diff\u00e9rents niveaux de cimentation peuvent \u00eatre cr\u00e9\u00e9s et utilis\u00e9s selon les besoins du projet de construction. De faibles quantit\u00e9s de calcite permettent d\u2019obtenir une r\u00e9sistance suffisante pour que les sols graveleux r\u00e9sistent \u00e0 des forces de cisaillement lors d\u2019importants tremblements de terre ou apporter des solutions aux probl\u00e8mes de stabilisation des pentes ou de restauration de fondations existantes. Avec des contenus de calcite plus importants, le mat\u00e9riau peut \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme mat\u00e9riau de construction, ou m\u00eame utilis\u00e9 pour des applications d\u2019imperm\u00e9abilisation des sols.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source : M\u00e9diacom &#8211; EPFL<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Laur\u00e9ats du 30\u00e8me Prix Roberval<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>Laurent Vulliet et Lyesse Laloui, professeurs au Laboratoire de m\u00e9canique des sols (LMS) de l\u2019EPFL, ont re\u00e7u le 16 janvier dernier le 30\u00e8me Prix Roberval Enseignement Sup\u00e9rieur pour leur livre M\u00e9canique des sols et des roches, publi\u00e9 aux Presses polytechniques et universitaires romandes en 2016. Jian Zhao, troisi\u00e8me co-auteur de l\u2019ouvrage, est un ancien professeur de l\u2019EPFL, actuellement \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Monash, en Australie. Le prix a \u00e9t\u00e9 remis par S\u00e9bastien Candel, pr\u00e9sident de l\u2019Acad\u00e9mie fran\u00e7aise des sciences, \u00e0 l\u2019Institut national de France en la pr\u00e9sence de 150 invit\u00e9s. Ce prix r\u00e9compense la promotion et la diffusion de la science et des technologies en langue fran\u00e7aise.
